Being Intentional in the Word & Bold Obedience: A Conversation with Tyra Balcombe

In today’s episode of The Refined Sisterhood podcast, Kait and I sit down with our amazing friend Tyra Balcombe to discuss what it looks like to be intentional in God’s Word and walk in bold obedience. It’s one thing to read the Bible, but it’s another to live it out and allow it to transform our hearts and actions. Heather shares her journey of intentionally pursuing God through His Word and the powerful impact that bold obedience has had on her life.

Being Intentional in the Word

One of the things Heather emphasizes in this episode is the importance of being intentional when it comes to spending time in God’s Word. It’s easy to get distracted by the busyness of life, but when we’re intentional with our time in Scripture, we make space for God to speak to us and shape us.

We can’t just know the Word; we need to live the Word. Heather talks about the importance of digging deep into Scripture, not just reading it passively, but allowing it to penetrate our hearts. This intentionality is what helps us grow spiritually, strengthens our faith, and equips us for the challenges of life.

The Power of Bold Obedience

Tyra also shares her story of walking in bold obedience to God’s calling, even when it’s difficult or uncomfortable. Bold obedience means stepping out in faith and trusting God with the results, even when we don’t have all the answers. It requires surrendering our plans and trusting God’s purpose for our lives.

Obeying God’s voice, even in the small things, has the power to bring about incredible change in our lives and the lives of others. It’s not always easy, but as we take those steps of faith, we see God’s faithfulness and provision in new ways.

How to Be Intentional in God’s Word

Being intentional in the Word is a key aspect of living out our faith. Here are a few practical tips Tyra shares for making time in God’s Word a priority:

  1. Set a Time and Place: Choose a specific time and place each day to spend time with God in prayer and Bible reading. Consistency helps create a habit of being intentional with your time in the Word.

  2. Journal What You Learn: As you read the Bible, write down verses that stand out to you or insights you receive from the Holy Spirit. Journaling helps solidify what you’re learning and allows you to reflect on how God is speaking to you.

  3. Pray Over What You Read: Don’t just read the Bible for knowledge; pray over what you’re reading and ask God to show you how to apply it to your life. The Holy Spirit will guide you as you seek to live out the Word.

  4. Engage in Community: Surround yourself with others who are also passionate about being intentional in God’s Word. Group Bible studies, accountability partners, and church community are all great ways to stay focused and encouraged in your faith.

Steps Toward Bold Obedience

Bold obedience is about trusting God and stepping out of our comfort zones to follow His leading. Here are some practical steps to help you walk in bold obedience:

  1. Listen for God’s Voice: Spend time in prayer and worship, asking God to make His voice clear to you. Sometimes, bold obedience requires listening first, then taking action.

  2. Take Small Steps of Faith: Bold obedience doesn’t always mean big leaps; it often starts with small steps of obedience. Trust God in the small things, and He will equip you to take bigger steps as you grow in faith.

  3. Push Past Fear: Obeying God often means stepping into the unknown. But God has not given us a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). As you step out in obedience, trust that He will give you the strength and courage you need.

  4. Stay Accountable: Find others who can support you in your journey of obedience. Bold obedience is not meant to be walked out alone; we need the encouragement and prayers of fellow believers.

Living a Life of Intentionality & Obedience

At the end of the day, living intentionally in the Word and walking in bold obedience are about growing closer to Jesus and reflecting His character in our lives. These disciplines shape us into women of faith who not only hear God’s Word but live it out in every area of our lives. Whether it’s in our homes, workplaces, or communities, our intentionality in the Word and bold obedience can be a powerful testimony of God’s love and faithfulness.

Closing Thoughts

Being intentional in the Word and living with bold obedience isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it. As we make time for God’s Word and listen to His voice, He will equip us for every good work He has planned for us. So, let’s keep pressing into His Word, listening for His guidance, and walking out in bold obedience. God is faithful, and He will use our intentionality and obedience for His glory.

With love,
Maddie & Kait
