031 : Finding Your Purpose (Pt. 1) - Where is your Identity Found?
Finding Your Purpose (Part 1): Where Is Your Identity Found?
Finding your purpose can often feel like an overwhelming, elusive pursuit. In this episode of The Refined Sisterhood podcast, we dive deep into the first part of our two-part series on purpose, starting with the most foundational question: Where is your identity found? Before we can truly understand and walk in our purpose, we must first recognize who we are in Christ.
Identity: The Foundation of Your Purpose
In today’s world, it’s easy to get caught up in defining ourselves by what we do, what others say about us, or the roles we play in life. But when we find our identity in anything other than Jesus, we set ourselves up for confusion, insecurity, and disappointment. Our identity in Christ is the foundation for discovering our true purpose.
Throughout the episode, Kait and I reflect on the importance of having a firm grasp on our identity before we can effectively live out the calling God has for us. We dive into the truth that we are loved, chosen, and called by God, and this truth must be the lens through which we see ourselves and our purpose in life.
Where Are You Finding Your Worth?
As we navigate this journey, we ask the important question: Where are you finding your worth? Are you defining yourself by your achievements, your appearance, your relationships, or your career? These things are not inherently bad, but when they become the sole basis of our identity, we lose sight of the true purpose God has for us.
The world tells us to perform, to achieve, and to constantly strive for more. But in Jesus, we are already enough. We are fully loved, fully seen, and fully accepted in Him. When we rest in the truth of our identity in Christ, everything else begins to fall into place.
Who Does God Say You Are?
In this episode, we look at Scripture and remind ourselves of the beautiful truths about our identity as daughters of the King. We reflect on verses like:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
These Scriptures remind us that our identity is rooted in God’s love for us, not in what we do or what others think. Our worth comes from who He says we are, not from our accomplishments or titles.
Practical Steps for Finding Your Identity in Christ
If you’re struggling with finding your identity or getting caught up in the pressures of the world, here are a few practical ways to center your identity in Christ:
Spend time in God’s Word: Regularly immerse yourself in Scripture to remind yourself of God’s truth about you.
Practice gratitude: Thank God for who He says you are and for His love, regardless of your performance or achievements.
Journal your thoughts: Write down what you believe about yourself and compare it to what God says in His Word. Let His truth reshape your understanding of your identity.
Spend time in prayer: Talk to God about any lies you may be believing about your worth and ask Him to help you see yourself through His eyes.
Closing Thoughts
As we begin this journey of discovering our purpose, it all starts with knowing who we are in Christ. Your identity isn’t based on your job, your relationships, or your achievements—it’s based on God’s unchanging love for you. When you rest in this truth, your purpose becomes clearer, and you’ll begin to walk confidently in the calling He has for you.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of this series, where we’ll dive deeper into discovering and living out your God-given purpose!
