016 : Ditching The Boss Girl Mentality - From Hustle To Holy Work

“Are you a business owner who is wanting to pivot or shift into something else? Maybe you are wanting and feeling like the Lord is calling you to step back or maybe you feel like the Lord is calling you to a season of rest. Whatever it may be, we want you to lean in and hear form us as we talk about something that we are both currently walking through as entrepreneurs and moms. Listen to our hearts, our questions, and how we are still walking through a season if waiting.” THAT IS THIS WEEK ON THE REFINED SISTERHOOD.

Kaitlin begins this episode by providing a little background on she and Maddie and how they got to where they are now IN THEIR LIVES AND BUSINESSES. Kaitlin explains that a few years ago WHEN she FIRST BEGAN HER BUSINESS AND WAS GETTING THINGS UP AND RUNNING, SHE was FUNCTIONING under the “boss girl, go go go” mentality and she was working so hard for something THAT WAS ULTIMATELY SUCCESFUL IN: MAKING PHOTOGRAPHY HER FULL TIME JOB.

Kaitlin shares that over the past few years she has experienced a shift in her heart in terms of photography and what she feels like her calling in general is.

MadDie states that she and Kaitlin are very similar and that they each have a front row seat to each other’s stories. Maddie shares that when she started her photography business and it started to flourish she really felt peace and like she had reached her “peak.”

But! as life changed, so has Maddie’s spirit and she is starting to recognize that the Lord has even bigger plans for her and photography was just a stepping stone to her bigger purpose, to where the Lord is going to place her.

“we have both hit the climax of our photography careers and now we are just thinking ‘what now?’” -Kaitlin, Founder

Kaitlin expresses that she and Maddie both are trying to work on obedience right now as God leads them towards other dreams and goals for their lives that both co-hosts did not intend on pursuing.

“I know that the Lord is calling me out of weddings and honestly that is terrifying because this has been my end goal.” -MADDIE, founder

Maddie states that obedience is the hardest part because for her, photographing weddings is her income and she doesn’t know what is next so she can prepare for what the Lord has for her because only He knows the plans he has for us.

Maddie says she knows that God is teaching her to take care of her “here” and not worry about “there.”

Piggybacking off of Maddie, Kaitlin shares that she is also going to be pulling herself out of photographing weddings starting sometime next year (2023). Kaitlin shares that she is trying to be obedient to the Lord but also not sound like a crazy person to her husband.

Maddie says that over the last few months she has been considering all of the options of income if she cuts weddings down or out altogether, crunching the numbers and praying that her husband would have peace with this as well.

“trusting is a verb. You have to literally do it.” -KAITLIN, FOUNDER

kAITLIN SHARES A BIBLE VERSE THAT COMES TO MIND WHEN THINKING ABOUT TRUSTING gOD, IT CAN BE FOUND IN lUKE 12:27-31: “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.”

god provides for even the flowers, so why would he not provide for his people?

maddie confesses that trusting god without knowing the end goal is hard for her because she wants to know what it is going to look like in the end before she does things. maddie tells listeners that sometimes we just have to let go of understanding and let god take care of things, because ultimately he is in control and has already planned our lives and how he intends them to play out.

“pivoting out of something that is comfortable is okay. it is uncomfortable and not necessarily always fun but if you do it and be obedient to the lord then that is what is important. and if you do your best to live out that obedience and trust in the season of waiting, the lord is going to honor that.” -kaitlin

maddie and kait then express that they want to talk about their own transitions out of that boss girl mentality and share what they feel helps.

  1. seek the lord in prayer—when you have a feeling of burnout come over you and you start to seek him out in prayer, he will reveal why you feel the way that you do and how to deal with it.

    • “if you are feeling like we are, seriously get on your hands and knees and pray, pray pray.”-maddie

  2. fight your flesh and have as many conversations with god as possible.

  3. make it visible to yourself and other people once you know it is coming from the lord: make your news public to people.

maddie concludes the episode by saying that they seek prayer from their listeners as they walk through them themselves and invite listeners who are also walking through this to reach out in the RS COMMUNITY.
