maddie and kait begin this episode introducing the incredible Megan Trammell and talking about the most bizarre fact about her. She was hit by a bus!!! Don’t worry though, she was fine and everyone got a good laugh out of her story.
Megan shares that when she was Christmas Caroling one time with her church, and they decided that it would be a good idea to run around the church bus for fun. Little did they know, the bus was accidentally not put in park, Megan ran around the bus, and her arm got run over. She said it was totally a God thing that it wasn’t worse and now she can totally laugh about it. After all, she got the nickname “SpeedBump” out of it.
After telling the story and everyone having a good laugh, Megan transitions into telling her story and sharing some Spirit Led truth.
Summarizing Megan’s story, here is the key message that Megan lay’s out for us:
“Some days, motherhood is tough. IT is especially in the little years where some days I feel as though I am just treading water. One of those tough days, my friends were encouraging me and we started talking about David.
When we think about David we know he was called to be king. but before he could fulfill his calling as king, he was called to be a warrior. and before he was called to be a mighty warrior, he was called to be a musician in the king’s court. and before being a musician in the king’s court, he was called to kill Goliath. but even before Goliath, he was called to be a Shepherd. That season of shepherding was the foundational calling in his life. It certainly wasn’t the most glamorous, praised, or well known, but that season is where he learned how to walk closely with God, how to fight, and how to worship. It was in that season that seemed the most unimportant, that really was the building block of what every one of his other callings was built on.
So moms I just want to encourage you that whatever season you are in, it has purpose. Today that dirty diaper you’re changing, those toys you’re picking up for about the 10th time, the laundry that never seems to end. Every task in front of you is an opportunity to love your husband and children well and that right there is kingdom work.
You are uniquely equipped to do whatever it is that god has called you to do.”
Kaitlin and Maddie exclaim that Megan beautifully crafts words together and that her story is so incredible. And Maddie follows up letting her know that it is going to be so cool for her to be able to share about her mom and her testimony with her children one day. Maddie then asks Megan, “was there something that you were really comforted by in the hard season of losing your mom?”
Megan explains that the lord would show up In the most miraculous ways when she was hurting. She says that she would go on Chick-Fil-A dates with the Lord and somehow her meal would be paid for, someone would give her encouragement, etc. She says that just inviting the Lord into simple car rides or things that reminded her of her mom, he would so simply and beautifully show up in ways that would feel so comforting for Megan.
Maddie says that she loved when Megan mentioned that “there is magic in the mundane.” It is so easy to get caught up in a routine, but it’s so cool that we get the honor of shepherding our children and that there truly is power in the mundane.
Megan mentions that often, the enemy will fill our minds with those lies that what we do in the mundane is not important. But she follows up with the coolest analogy:
“You know how when you go through the drive through and you get to the window and you realize you have the wrong thing and you say, I didn’t order that? Every time a lie from the enemy comes through our minds that is exactly what we should be saying - ‘I didn’t order that!’ and immediately get rid of that thought.”
Moving on to another question, Maddie asks Megan “is there something that you have learned in motherhood that helps you be more intentional in the mundane?”
Megan replies with a deeply beautiful Statement: “Every morning before my feet touch the floor, I ask the Lord ‘pLease don’t let me miss anything that you have for me today.’” She gives an example of how she was up early on mother’s day with her child, completely unplanned. She took a drive to Starbucks and God painted the most beautiful sunrise in the sky. She realized that God didn’t want her to miss that moment.”
Kaitlin follows up saying that God is so intentional in meeting us in the little moments and showing his goodness through purposeful things. There are no accidents or coincidences, God lines every single thing up exactly the way it is supposed to be.
Maddie adds that in her own personal life as a mom it is so easy to get caught up in those mundane moments and that it’s easy to miss the little moments if we aren’t intentional about looking for God in each moment. She mentions that the hard moments have taught her to lean in and say “I get to” instead of “I have to.”
Megan replies with “those moments at 3:00am when you are praying over your baby and when it is hard in those moments and just having that perspective, it makes such a difference in the Kingdom.” She says “in the nitty gritty of changing diapers, doing laundry, then the Lord will say ‘Have you shared about me with your children today?"‘“ she explains her heart’s desire for her kids and that is to share the gospel every day to her children that are unreached souls. To have them grow up to be mighty men and women of god.
Kaitlin follows up with sharing some advice someone gave her about how your family is your first ministry and you don’t want to miss those opportunities. Making sure she is shepherding her children well. She talks about the importance of implementing the practices of speaking about jesus, shepherding, and praying over beckett even now when he doesn’t understand.
Maddie follows up with asking Megan “what is one thing you can leave our listeners with? Whether it is words of encouragement, advice, wisdom.”
Megan responds talking about how you can experience joy and sorrow at the same time. Immense joy that your child just took their first steps or slept through the night. But you can also have sorrow at the same time as megan wishes her mom can be there with her to share in those moments. She encourages our listeners that the Lord wants to come and be with you in those moments. she says, “Invite him into that place and say ‘Lord I need you now’ and watch him show up.”
Maddie and Kaitlin close with how much they loved the wisdom and encouragement from megan and how they are so thankful that she was a guest on the podcast.
