Q & A STYLE EPISODE:
HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR HUSBAND?
maddie: met her husband in kindergarten and continued through school with him through high school. after high school, the two went to different colleges until shaun transferred to where maddie went, and the rest is history.
kaitlin: met her husband while working at bi-lo, where her husband, hunter, and maddie’s husband, shaun, both worked. hunter was crushing on kaitlin from the beginning and about a year into knowing one another they started dating and are now married.
what is one of the hardest things about being your own boss?
maddie: boundaries, saying no. there is no opportunity to say no and cut it off without strict boundaries.
kaitlin: the balance between work and life, along with boundaries.
what marriage advice would you give to a newlywed?
keep jesus first and your marriage second.
try to out-serve your spouse every single day.
communicate with your spouse. communication helps you to be on the same page, be vulnerable with one another, and can make or break your marriage.
what is your favorite thing about your husband?
kaitlin: loves hunter’s ability to take control of situations and be a true leader. there are so many moments in their lives that kaitlin needs hunter to step up and be a leader and he always does that.
maddie: shaun loves to serve people and always does that with a heart of humility. he does the hard stuff without being asked to and loves to do it all behind the scenes without the credit.
what is one funny way you differ in being moms?
maddie: feels as if she is very by the book with things, where as kaitlin is very flexible and just goes with the flow.
kaitlin: when the two are out in public, maddie’s baby loves with sing and talk, which maddie tries to quiet down. kaitlin, on the other hand, encourages him to be as loud as he wants and keep talking.
how do you have such good friendships?
listen to the refined sisterhood’s episode on this topic HERE!
maddie and kaitlin’s relationship is founded on jesus. the two always talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly because they know that everything they are walking through is from the lord.
the two want people in their corners who rally around them. you need to surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you. the lord did not intend for his people to do life alone. hone in on the deep connections with the people who rally around you.
what is one thing that you love that your baby is doing right now?
kaitlin: beckett is doing a really cute little nose crinkle smile, but he is also starting to army crawl, or at least try to.
maddie: keegan has such a big personality and is super mobile right now, which is hard for maddie because she has a broken ankle but it is so fun to watch him try to walk and move even more than he already is. keegan is also doing the nose crinkle and it is, of course, adorable.
have either of you dealt with postpartum anxiety?
maddie: maddie shares that she has never been diagnosed with anything, but at her six week follow up two doctors told her that they felt she had postpartum ocd, which she was unaware was a thing. in specific, maddie struggles with leaving her baby with anyone else, especially at the church nursery or anywhere that there are germs for keegan to be exposed to. maddie shares that a lot of the things she feels were normal to an extent, but a lot of it also was not normal and she had to learn to work through.
how did you know when it was the right time to get married?
kaitlin: wanted to get engaged her senior year of college and get married asap. but, no matter how bad they wanted to then, the two of them were not ready. at that point, kaitlin feels like she was more ready to have the wedding then she was to get married and in this time the lord began to refine her heart and prepare her for marriage. a year later, she got engaged and she was in a totally different place and was actually ready by that point.
maddie: she and her husband got married very young and her shaun was still in college. when the two got engaged, looking back now, they were totally different people and were not ready to get married. they were doing it in the sense that marriage was the next season of life. a few months before their wedding, in premarital counseling, the two learned things about themselves that they did not love and needed to work on before they got married. in this season, the two began focusing on what marriage would be like instead of what the wedding would look like.
if you are struggling with this, look at the posture of your heart and really pay attention to if you are looking forward to a wedding day, or spending the rest of your life with your person. the honeymoon stage of love dissolves and you have to wake up and choose to love your spouse every day.
how do you enjoy being engaged?
kaitlin: knows that for some being engaged is the best, and for others it is the worst. kaitlin loved being engaged and feels like the main reason for that is because she was practical.
set a reasonable timeline for your wedding and give yourself adequate time to plan your wedding.
set your expectations and know what you want.
try not to count down to your day and spend the days reflecting on your own heart.
premarital counseling.
date your partner. date your spouse.
what is a weird quirk that you notice about each other?
kaitlin: maddie repeats words all of the time. for instance, she will be like “hey kaitlin, can you bring me a forky fork?”
maddie: for this one you have to watch the youtube video in order to see this, but maddie shares that kaitlin will do the “ok” sign with her hands and say “100% percentttt.”
