028 : Process Over Perfection // Becoming More Like Jesus
Buckle up for a deep, deep episode because today we are diving into a big topic that the Lord has been refining us in for a while now. It truly doesn’t matter who you are, this episode is for you. We believe that we are all in process when it comes to our relationship with Jesus, but it is SO easy to strive to look and be perfect to others around us. We dive deep into how we can overcome this idea of upholding the perfect reputation and just simply living in process of becoming more like Jesus. If you’re ready to break down some walls and hear some truth, this episode is perfect for you!
Intro - Becoming like Jesus is a PROCESS.
Sometimes I think it’s so easy to forget that with heart change doesn’t come immediate perfection. It’s a process that we are in every single day. We are all imperfect humans getting to know the heart of God. And It’s okay to not be perfect - we simply can’t be.
Everyone wants to bloom, not everyone wants to be planted.
Topic 1 - Putting off the perfect “image”
Social Media has created a desire to look perfect
Many of us were raised to “uphold a good reputation”
We are so quick to put off the “perfect” image of our lives. We pretend to be “fine” but behind closed doors we are often covered in overwhelm, sorrow, brokenness, and our sinful nature. It’s often hidden, far from other eyes.
Yet, in the perfect world that we create, we have a “reputation to uphold.” “A name to represent.” We have to be “perfect.” AKA, fake it til you make it. What a disappointing way to have to come face to face with people or to social media daily.
We feel like we can’t even be honest in church - we can’t be vulnerable and that is really sad.
Topic 2 - Being Judgmental of Others
We are quick to look at others in a negative way when we see their imperfection, and forget that we ourselves aren’t perfect because of always wanting to look perfect
We often do this because we have conditioned ourselves to believe that the “perfect” image we put off is a real one. When, In fact, we are not even close.
Others suffer when we make ourselves look good on the outside.
Who are we to cast the first stone? Even Jesus looked upon sinners with compassion and love.
Topic 3 - We are ALL in process. We are ALL working through something. We are ALL imperfect. We are ALL sinners in need of a savior.
We need to stop judging others when our own selves look just as ugly.
Being in process means that we need to give ourselves grace and also look upon others with grace.
We need to be vulnerable and not let shame get the best of us. the best way to grow in christ and lead others to him is to uncover the ugly parts of our hearts and be real.
We encourage you today to pray for the Lord to uncover the ugly parts of your heart and to truly evaluate the posture of your heart. It’s a hard prayer because often, the answer is hard to accept and endure. But when we are constantly asking the lord to reveal our sin in humility, we are so much more likely to lead others in love to the cross.
Thank you SO much for being here. We hope you leave today feeling more encouraged than you were when you started listening and like you are a welcome part of this community— because you ARE.
