Running Into The Arms of Jesus in Mundane Seasons

Author : Kaitlin Haines

Are you in a season that feels kind of “blah?”

You just don’t really feel like yourself. You feel pretty empty and can’t seem to bring yourself out of that rut you’re in? I’ve been there. It’s weird how our different seasons of life fluctuate. We feel so at peace and high on life and Jesus one minute, and the next, we are struggling to get through the day, wondering why we feel so unfulfilled.

Life is far from easy. It is very evident that the main reason for this is that we are humans living in a sin-cursed world. Because of that, We are so easily swept into the motions and allow whatever is going on in our lives dictate the way we feel. And when things are hard, we often let it get to us.

In these hard seasons, do you ever find yourself pulling back from reading the word and pursuing the Lord like you “should” do? I do. I find that it is easiest to run to Jesus when things are good and when life seems to be easy. Then suddenly an empty feeling sweeps through and for some reason, I distance myself from God’s presence.

Something that I have realized is that these mundane, empty seasons that we find ourselves in do have purpose. And when we distance ourselves from him, we are distancing ourselves from letting the Lord teach and comfort us. It’s important to remember that it isn’t the Lord who intends for us to feel that way. As a matter of fact, He wants us to ALWAYS draw near to Him so that we won’t ever have to feel empty, unfulfilled, or sad. But when we do, He always uses it to grow us in some way. He uses these seasons of pain, sadness, or just “blah-ness” to grow us as people so that when the season is over, we truly understand and appreciate His faithfulness to teach, refine, and work things together for good.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” ROMANS 8:28 ESV

If it wasn’t for the mundane seasons, THE HARD SEASONS, AND THE SAD SEASONS, we wouldn’t appreciate the exciting, the lovely, and the good.

Every time I have been through one of these seasons, in the moment, it’s overwhelming. Whether it’s physical or emotional hurt, or just feeling empty, it’s never fun. But I’ve had to realize that when I’m in the midst of it all, I can’t sulk. I can’t sit around, complain about my situation, and wallow in self pity. I have to draw near to the Lord seeking His purpose and allow Him to refine me. He is the only one who can bring us true peace and comfort and fill the emptiness we feel inside.

So, my encouragement to you today is to seek Him. If you just aren’t feeling yourself or you are going through a really hard time, you must take the initiative to fling yourself into His wide open arms. It might be hard at first. Your mind might tell you it’s too much work or effort, but we can’t grow and find joy in the Lord without seeking him FIRST.

When you seek Him, you will find Him. He will teach you, refine you, fill your spirit, and bring you peace unimaginable.

In him, there is freedom from that season you are going through.

xx,

Kait
